I have been using my hypershell for several weeks now and whilst it took some time to work out what "level" in settings works for me it has significantly improved my day to day mobility. It reduces the amount of effort needed, gait, style stamina and most importantly confidence. I have MS and whilst not medically approved (yet) it should be.
I’ve been using my Hypershell Pro for about a month now. What was unexpected is the ease of use with the phone app , to manage different modes instead of using the side “push button mode”. That is a nice enhancement. I also like the cumulation of stats that you can review as part of an exercise regime.
The fit really requires the right clothing that can help hold the exoskeleton in place. Which is a problem in summer heat where you would want to wear shorts, t-shirt because it really needs fabric to better hold the adjusting straps. The first time I put it on wearing a pair of shorts and t-shirt the cinching of the straps needed multiple tightening because the exoskeleton was sliding and slipping downwards from the waist and the thighs.
The waist adjustments are simply clunky when you adjust the hip width. Then when you tighten around the waist so that it's snug, but when you start walking or moving it starts to slide downwards. It's like your pants are falling down. I would recommend better straps and a snap on suspender so that the shoulders would help pull up as the body moves through walking, hiking and stair climbing.
The other straps that are problematic is the straps that you cinch around each thigh above the knee. Although there is a height adjuster so that you can find that sweet spot above your knees, the natural diameter toward the knee means the strap is not going to tight enough to hold and results in the knee attachments sliding downwards too.
So, when the knee straps loosen and slide downwards and the waist straps loosen with movement the whole exoskeleton feels like it is going to wind up around your ankles. Even though the exoskeleton won't fall that far, it just feels like it's drooping and hanging off of you.
Extra clothing helps give the strapping a better hold overall, but not nearly enough to be comfortable with movement.
The functionality of this Hypershell X is excellent and is helpful. It seems to give enough extra energy to help reduce effort and for me and my COPD is really helpful tackling climbing stairs, hiking and some walking longer without the need to stressed breathing.
Refining the fit is really needed. I know it could be complex because of the varied body types, but a simple added suspender could be a nice improvement for a more comfortable fit.
Overall build quality is 4 stars. The fit is probably 2 stars. The function is 4.5 stars. So, overall I gave it 3 stars.
Very cool tech but there's some hiccups needing ironed out. For example if I slow down even a bit it deactivates, and after using it for a while when it deactivates it practically almost put you on the ground. But otherwise it's comfortable and easy to use.
It works perfect! You'll have a refill in the least amount of time.
Less usable on the go, for this a smaller single battery charger would be nice.
The unit has been helpful in many different areas and I'm gonna explain that in a future note. I'm using the unit to assist in my walking, I have a spine injury that's incomplete. I've used the unit to walk with a couple different types of walkers and it's been very effective in simplifying the walk and extending the distance. The problem I run into is when I'm using it with crutches. The speed of my gating is slower and it goes to idle mode often. My right leg hip flexor needs additional assistance and that's where it goes to idle mode too soon. There may be some adjustments that can fix this and if so I'm not aware of them. This is where I'm looking for guidance.
The other issue I have is the case, it's very difficult2 put the unit back into the case and close the case properly often and I have to use bungee cords to close the case. Is there another case that I can purchase that would enable me to better Carry the unit? Thank you Tom Kimmeth, [****]
I need an skeleton with another tight under the knees.
After a week of use, I have a big pain in my knees. So, I need support with the force of my knees.
I walk with a cane or Rollator. This unit helps with my gait and stride. I still need a device to help with my balance.
It's made such a difference to my life. Every time I wear it out everyone asks where I got it from. I've been letting people try it for themselves. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend
I had high expectations for this hypershell and it still exceeded expectations! Before purchasing I read lots of the personal reviews on the website and found them helpful. We bought this exoskeleton as my wife has MS. This gives her foot drop (she wears an orthotic for this), weak quads and weak hip flexors. As a result she has to lift her hip to swing her leg forward to walk. Her other leg luckily is fine. As a result of this restriction and the pathology of MS she gets tired quickly. Hence the purchase of the hypershell. While using the hypershell she can walk with virtually a normal swinging gait, though still using a stick for support and the foot drop orthotic. Using Hypershell she has been able to walk at least 3 times further and much faster as well. It is especially useful on a hill as she can increase the power. She is using muscles which previously she was only using if she used her FES bike (Functional Electrical Stimulation). As a result her Glut Medius muscles are getting a chance to work which in turn will help her long term with her hip/pelvis stability. So not only is the hypershell helping with the practical walking, it is also helping to strengthen important core muscles.
For the set up, due to her asymmetric weakness, we used the torque control in the phone app to adjust the balance between the left and right sides. For her this worked much better as it allows the hypershell to balance the effective power to both legs. By playing with the settings we got her walking well in the first session. The firmware updates have gone smoothly.
If there is a weakness in the hypeshell it is the manual, it would be really helpful if all the functions in the phone app had an explanation of when to use them and an explanation of what the function actually does to the power output. This helps you work out in advance when you could use them but with less risk.
So well done team, keep up the good work!
I have to admit I was a skeptical that the Hypershell would make a significant difference to my walking abilities. Have since done 3 walks and 10 km with it and have to say it is an incredible piece of technology. I'm 66 with early OA in both my knees. Struggled with distance walking and was reluctant to walk more than 500 m each time with 1km about my maximum. With the Hypershell I have easily done a 2 km, 3 km and 5 km walk so far. That is with stops of course but I can now double my distance between stops.
Pros:
1. Definitely helps up steep gradients
2. Certainly contributes to leg strength and support
3. Makes you want to do a walk when you would otherwise hesitate
Cons
1. Doesn't give as much support going downhill as much as I hoped it would
2. On the Hyper mode the motor can heat up significantly, enough to make you feel uncomfortable
3. When I detach the battery for a couple of days, it seems not to have a "memory" to last those days and I have to restart the whole process of initiating the Hypershell again right from tye setup process.
Other than the above, it's a pretty incredible product. A bit like an e-bike for your legs.
Great product! Only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because I wanted to suggest a possible improvement. Not sure if possible, but can future iterations help you go up a couple of steps? It helps me lift the leg but doesn’t help pushing up
I bought this not as a mountain hiking assist. I bought it to see if it would help my waking. I've had a few back issues and have 50% paralysis on my left leg with numbness, my right side doesn't have any paralysis but is numb.
Anyway this Hypershell pro X has been amazing! I've had it for almost 3 weeks and have walked 12 miles to date, I walk at least a half mile per day, my longest single outing was 1-1/2 miles, I do have to use trekking poles to help with my balance,
It took some time to get the Hypershell set up for me which I still have more features to tweak but I'm getting stronger every day. I think the damn thing is helping.
Surprising. Mostly for going up stairs or halls, i need to try
Increased my limits from an uninterrupted .25 mile to .6 mile/ hour limit from .6 mile to +1 mile. It helps me get tired slower; Better than nothing
I have MS, and this is a game changer for assisting me in walking! It helps lift my legs higher than I can on my own giving me more flexibility and stride than I have had in years. I can't wait to see how strong I will get from the work! These should be covered by insurance!!!!!
Works great ! I have Parkinson’s an I am using it to train and exercise my legs .
I do a lot of physical labor and sometimes I am even injured when trying to. The hyper shell has been an inexpendible tool so that I can meet demand consistently. That helps me conserve energy so that I can work more and not be so tired at the end of the day. It helps most when there is a lot of walking involved in your work. I can confirm that the product works and is helpful.
Incredible product. Purchased for my mother who has mobility problems. Its not a magic bullet and she still uses a cane for balance. But, the action of lifting the legs has been an absolute game changer and she now uses it in her daily life.
For some reason would not link to my phone. But it did to my wife's phone. Hers is apple mine is the galaxy fold
